Agros Rose Festival – Cyprus Annual Event

Every year, the Agros Community Council hosts a two-weekend festival with various activities. Visitors have the opportunity to explore local workshops and learn about the distillation of roses. They can also visit the rose exhibition and browse through kiosks selling traditional products. Throughout the festival, folk dance and music performances are offered for everyone to enjoy. Delicious food and drinks are available at the kiosks, and a community train offers rides and walks for people of all ages. Additionally, all village sights are open to the public during the festival. This year's event will be held during two weekends, on May 13-14 & 20-21, 2023. If you really want to enjoy this I would advise you to visit early in the morning in order to avoid the crowds, when it's still not that hot and you'll find a nearby car parking space. During the festival, visitors have the chance to see and enjoy various exhibitions of products made of local roses, learn more about the procedure of making rose water, enjoy a traditional dance program and traditional music and taste some products made of rose also as other Cypriot traditional products. Get to visit the Rose factory which is one of the most interesting and characteristic spots in Agros. You will be toured around the factory and hear how rose water is made, from which roses, when and long does it take to produce. You'll get to try rose water, rose chocolates, hand creams, liquors, and even toothpaste (everything that has to do with cosmetics is considered to be organic). Exploring Troodos Mountains, Cyprus

Troodos is the largest mountain range in Cyprus, located in the center of the island. Its highest peak is Mount Olympus, also known as Chionistra, at 1,952 meters. Troodos is well known for its beautiful resorts, traditional Cypriot villages, scented forests, and for its cultural heritage such as historical monasteries and churches. So you've decided to explore the Troodos area and you are looking for some recommendations? Are you just visiting for the day or you are planning to stay somewhere? I would totally recommend you to spend a weekend in the Troodos area, by booking a hotel, an apartment, or even better a traditional holiday house. By staying around you will have more time to enjoy the surroundings, villages, scenery and the amazing food you can try at many local restaurants and taverns. Below I've listed some great things you should do and places to visit along with recommended places to enjoy a nice meal during your visit in the area. THINGS TO DO IN TROODOS AREA 1. Try some traditional Cypriot Sweets Considering that you are starting your journey from Limassol, Troodos Junction, on your way up to Troodos mountains, make your first stop at Katerinas Cyprus Sweets shop. An authenticate Sweet Shop. It's located on the main road and you'll see it on your left side. You will be amazed of what you'll find here. Anything you can imagine, they've made it a sweet. Fruits and vegetables made into jams and sweets. There's free tasting so make sure to taste some of the most 'strange sweets' you mostly have never tried before. 2. Stop and enjoy Millomeri Waterfalls Another recommended stop is Millomeri Waterfalls. Millomeri is among the highest waterfalls in Cyprus. You'll need to get off the main road park your car and walk a few meters till you reach the waterfalls. 3. Visit Kakopetria Village Kakopetria is a beautiful scenery village. It is surrounded by thick forestland and is built on the banks of two rivers, Kargotis and Garillis. When visiting the area you [...]

Casale Panayiotis: A luxury resort located in the mountains

"Discover village life in Cyprus through a luxury hotel resort and spa set into an ancient mountain range in this Mediterranean escape". Cyprus is full of surprises and hidden spots. One of these is Casale Panayiotis, a stylish boutique hotel in the heart of Kalopanayiotis Village. It's a place to relax and enjoy the village life. It combines a mixture of a luxury spa, elegant hotel rooms that remind you of Cypriot Village houses - modern and old. Nestled in the Marathasa Valley, on the slopes of Troodos Mountains, Casale Panayiotis is a complex of traditional houses which combine modern luxuries with traditional style. It features a spa center and elegant rooms overlooking the courtyard or the mountains. Rooms All rooms and suites used to be village homes that have been restored, retaining their original Cypriot character and touch. All rooms are heated and air-conditioned, provide a TV,  safe, minibar and kettle, whilst some other rooms have a sink and a mini cooker. Free toiletries, bathrobes, slippers, and a hairdryer stock the bathroom. A few rooms have a fireplace (there is a 10 Euros extra charge for a basket of wood). We stayed at one of the 5 Studios, Agia Marina no.5 which is located in the Old neighborhood, near the Agia Marina church (the room was named after the church). Our room had a fireplace which made it extra cozy and warm during the winter nights that we stayed there. BOOK NOW Eating The food we had whilst staying in the village was delicious. Casale owns a few restaurants including Byzantino Restaurant, Byzantino Cafe, Loutraki, Pantheo and Kava. In order to reach most of these places and other eateries around the village, you need to walk, despite at which room you are staying at. We had food in Byzantino Restaurant which serves local dishes. We also visited Loutraki Grill restaurant set in a contemporary environment with amazing village views. But note that Loutraki has a very limited selection of dishes. I won't forget the exceptional breakfast. A variety of traditional Cypriot selections, [...]

Mesa Potamos: Waterfalls, St. John Monastery, Picnic area

Mesa Potamos area, is located near Saittas, towards Kato Amiantos in Cyprus. You can spend a whole day here by visiting the Waterfalls, the Monastery and have a relaxing time at the picnic area. Mesa Potamos Waterfalls On the way towards to Monastery of St. John the Baptist you will find the Mesa Potamos waterfalls, situated on the Argolachanias river. From the main road you will have to park your car and walk a bit. The height of the waterfall is 7m and it’s located on an altitude of 1000km. The river flows directly into Kourris dam. Geology consists of gabbro.   Monastery of Timios Prodromos The Monastery of Timios Prodromos (St. John the Baptist) lies in the Troodos forest area of Mesa Potamos. The Monastery located amongst the mountains surrounded by pine forests, has springs of sweet water near.  The monastery has been renovated in 2003 and you can see that it’s well preserved. There are a few monks living there at the moment, and if you visit the place you might see them walking near the forest, seeking for a quiet place while visitors are visiting. It’s worth knowing that archbishop Makarios and Grivas were using the monastery as a meeting point during 1950 until 1955 in order to conduct the Unity Referendum. Further to that, it has also served as a hideaway for the EOKA fighters ending up damaging the monastery when British soldiers invaded to the monastery to arrest the fighters. Mesa Potamos Picnic area 7 km from Saittas and site road to the left before the Monastery there’s a picnic area.  It’s one of the 40 picnic sites managed by the Forestry Departments who make sure to provide all the necessary facilities (barbeque area, water, tables, washrooms) when visiting the place.  The picnic area is large enough to accommodate up to 700 visitors. The picnic tables are scattered from each other, offering visitors privacy. There’s a facility to make your own barbeque if you take your equipment. The forest in which the picnic area [...]
