He loved poetry and dreamed of a free Cyprus. During the 1950s, when the island was under British rule, Evagoras joined the EOKA movement that fought for freedom.
He was arrested at only 19 years old and sentenced to death by hanging in 1957. He became the last and youngest EOKA fighter to be executed. His courage made him a national hero.One of his best-known lines still moves people today:
“I’ll take an uphill road, I’ll find my freedom.”

The club’s progress has been fast. In the 2023–24 season, Pafos FC won the Cypriot Cup for the first time and qualified for the UEFA Europa League.
The following year, in 2024–25, the team made history again by winning its first Cypriot First Division title. For the first time, Paphos was at the top of Cypriot football and earned a place in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
