Armou Village, the place where you can enjoy spectacular views of Paphos Town

It would be unfair not to write something about Armou Village, the village I grew up and lived there for many years. Armou is a village in Paphos located a few minutes away from Paphos City Centre. You can enjoy the spectacular Paphos town view and horizon sea views from almost every point in the village both day and night. When googling Armou you cannot find enough information apart from properties that are advertised to be sold or to be rented. Apparently is a village which has been modernized over the past few years and a lot of new properties have been built almost everywhere. I was told by my grandparents that the name of the village came from the fact that Aphrordite’s chariot passed from the village (chariot in greek is Αrma – Άρμα). The village is accessible from the Paphos-Limassol highway either by taking the Geroskipou-Konia exit or by reaching the Paphos roundabout and taking the exit to Konia. It’s about 5km away and you can reach the village in 10 minutes. There’s also a bus you can take from Paphos Town. Armou used to have around 460 residents back in 1946 however today there are around 670. Most of the people have left the village and moved to a different town. A large number of the current residents are English people staying there permanently. There’s a primary school that used to work years ago but since there are not enough children it’s not operating for teaching, instead, the children go to Konia primary school or primary schools located in the City Centre. However, the school is used for Theater lessons and also for selling used books now and then. Agia Varvara church is the only church in the Village. The Church gets quite busy during Christmas and Easter when all village emigrants come back for a short break. I would say that the busiest period of the year is Easter. During the Easter period, an air of festivity envelops the village. On Easter Monday, after lunchtime, the village square hosts an Easter celebration by organizing traditional Easter games, theatre, [...]

London Calling: Things to do in London

London is definitely one of the most must-visit popular destinations. Most people link London with Big Ben. It’s the UK’s capital city with the Big Ben tower clock, the Parliament Houses,  the London Eye and many others.  Since I was born in London, lived and worked there, I’m going to make some proposals for what to do and see if you are in London. London Transportation London's Underground rail network or "the Tube" as it is known, is normally the quickest and easiest way of travelling around London. If you buy an Oyster card or a day ticket, you can also use this on other transportation e.g. bus. London buses are a quick, convenient and cheap way to travel around London, with plenty of sightseeing opportunities en route. Believe me; you’ll get to see a lot of things that you would have missed using the underground tube. London Attractions to See Coca-Cola London Eye is another popular attraction situated near the Houses of Parliament and the Big Ben.  It’s a must to get a ride on the London eye in order to enjoy panoramic views. I’ve done the ride twice, one during the day and another one during the night. I have to say both times are amazing, each with its own unique way. Admission: from £6.53 Things to see/do around: Houses of Parliament, Big Ben. Nearby Public Transport: Waterloo and Charring Cross, Tube: Westminster BOOK TICKETS The Houses of Parliament is near the London Eye, so after you enjoy a ride on the amazing wheel you can walk around here. The Houses of Parliament (Palace of Westminster) is right next to the famous bell– Big Ben. This nice complex is located next to the river Thames and is one of the most photographic scenes. Admission: Free Nearby Public Transport: Westminster Tube Station, St James Park Tube Station, Charring Station BOOK TICKETS Trafalgar Square is located right in heart of London, is one of the city's most lively open spaces. Normally I reach this square by [...]

Camel Park, Mazotos

An adventurous family day out    If you are looking for something different to do with your family, Camel Park in Mazotos is an ideal option for a day out. Mazotos Camel Park was founded back in 1998 as a camel farm but the love and care of the owners for animals made the place a home for more than 100 animals, including ostriches, goats, deers, ponies, wallabies, lamas, alpacas, lemurs, turtles, fish, a lot of birds and our 60 camels, that each of them has its own name and character. It is the only camel park in Cyprus and the biggest camel park in Europe, achieving the ‘Trip Advisor’ Certificate of Excellence for the past 10 years. Our day started early in the morning. We left Limassol and it took us around 30 minutes to reach the park. We paid and went straight to the Camels area before the place got crowded. My kids were not very keen to ride the Camels so we took a ride with a train and they enjoyed feeding the camels with carobs. We could have walked since the distance to move around the Camels area is small, however, we got the train for the kids who loved it. Both train and camel rides last about 10 minutes and are something that should not be missed! Camels at the Mazotos Camel Park Playground Area But it's not only about the Camels. There's a lot more to do when you finish feeding the Camels and taking the rides! There's a huge kids' area with a lot of activities for children to enjoy including a bouncy castle, swingles, sliders, bumper car, and a mirror room. Adults can sit back whilst kids play around. There's also an indoor gaming area with operating rides (the ones that you have to use coins.) Swimming Pool If you're going there during Summer, make sure to take your swimming suit with you since there's a swimming pool. The pool is included in your entrance ticket. Cafe & [...]
